Bayern Munich’s Treble winners are well-represented on Uefa’s 10-man shortlist for the 2012/13 Best Player In Europe award. The Bavarian giants stormed to the Bundesliga title in record fashion, and then broke the hearts of Borussia Dortmund in the final of the Champions League at Wembley, to go with their German Cup victory. As a result, all of Thomas Muller, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben have been nominated for Uefa’s award. Dortmund’s deadly hit-man Robert Lewandowski also makes the list, even though his frequent goalscoring was in vain last season. Perennial winners Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid are also nominated of course, after yet another insanely prolific season of goalscoring for their respective Spanish clubs. League title magnet Zlatan Ibrahimovic is also nominated, after top-scoring for PSG as they won the Ligue 1 trophy. Tottenham Hotspur phenomenon Gareth Bale and Manchester United’s top-scoring champion striker, Robin van Persie, represent the English Premier League on the list, and they round off the nominated players. One of Bayern’s players should probably win the award, considering the almost salacious way they covered themselves in glory last season. But Messi and CR7 remain the two best players on the planet, and so the odds are on one of them adding Uefa’s top individual award to their already glittering trophy cabinets.
