Beardstown Newspapers, Inc. Publisher Position Beardstown Newspapers, Inc. (beardstownnewspapers) is seeking a publisher for Cass County Star-Gazette and Star-Extra. The weekly general circulation newspaper covers Cass County, Illinois and the Star-Extra is a mailed shopper with expanded market coverage to almost 12,000 homes. Founded in 1844, the weekly subscription Cass County Star-Gazette has a circulation of almost 3,000 paid subscribers, including newsstand sales. The newspaper office is located in Beardstown, approximately 46 miles west of Springfield and sits on the Illinois River. The area is rich in history and famous for the Lincoln Courthouse and Museum where Abraham Lincoln gained fame for “The Almanac Trial”. The position is available because the current publisher is relocating to be near family. The Cass County Star-Gazette serves as the eyes and ears of Cass County. The newspaper reports the births, marriages, court records, school news, church news, and other happenings making history in the county. Monthly meetings of the city and county governments are covered in the paper as well as school board news and other club and organization meetings. The ideal candidate will have newspaper management experience along with a vision for how to adapt to the changing media environment effectively and the energy and initiative to make that happen. The successful candidate must be an aggressive marketer, committed to driving revenue and improving existing products while developing new ones, and will be expected to be active in the life and leadership of the community. The publisher will be expected to plan, organize, coordinate and direct all operating activities at the newspaper. He or she will be responsible for achieving the newspaper’s financial goals and objectives and will also need to handle key accounts in the region that the Cass County Star-Gazette serves.
