Bears become Hunters prey The PNG Hunters recorded their highest ever win in the Intrust Super Cup with a convincing 56 – 12 win over the Burliegh Bears at Kalabond Oval in Kokopo. In cold and wet conditions, the Hunters looked more comfortable as they outplayed the Bears outfit who struggled to match the pace of the Hunters who have scored on every opportunity given. David Loko opened the scoring in the 6th minute following a good attacking raid on the left hand side. Adam Korave would score on the same side in the 13th minute. Several minutes later, Wartovo Puara Jnr, would score from his own grubber after a raid on the Bears try line. The left side proved fruitful once more as they score again in the 25th and 29th minute with Thompson Tete and Korave with his second. Gary Lo would cross over for his 20th try of the season after some expansive play by the Hunters. Hunters opened the scoring again in the second half with Willie Minoga crossing over for the first of his two tries after an early onslaught by the Hunters. The Bears would not go out without any points and after back to back sets, a raid on the left hand side of the Hunters territory resulted in a try to winger Jamie Anderson. Immediately after the kick restart, the Bears would score again with centre Brad Tighe running 60 metres to score. Both tries were converted and would be the last of the Bears points. Willie Minoga would score his second following a knock-on by the Bears after the kick restart. His was followed by a second try to Gary Lo and number 21 for the season. Captain Israel Eliab had a good day with his boot, kicking eight from eleven attempts and scored the last try of the day bringing his match day points tally to 20. It was a strong all round team performance and Coach Micahel Marum will be looking for a repeat performance next week against the Norths Devils, who are currently on 10th on the Instrust Super Cup ladder. The only worrying sign for the Hunters was a leg injury to Adam Korave who was taken off the field in the 48th minute. STORY PNGLOOP - Cedric Patjole
