Because its so fiscally conservative to spend millions of dollars on a special election, to elect a candidate who will be a lame duck the second he takes office. Literally, Cantor cant stick it out five more months, he has to get up and quit now and waste taxpayer money on a meaningless dog and pony show. Hes quitting because he doesnt want to have to justify either voting or not voting for all the controversial legislation that is going to come up during the lame-duck session, but he doesnt want to cost the GOP a vote so hes trying to essentially appoint a replacement for six months, at the expense of his constituents and their tax dollars. What a stand-up guy. ~S
