Before I get on my soapbox and blast this guy, let me make - TopicsExpress

Before I get on my soapbox and blast this guy, let me make something perfectly clear: I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING HE IS SAYING IN FULL. I have said this, and have been saying this, since the late 90s, when MTV started lumping them together. But... I blame his generation tho. They sat back and allowed rap to be called hip hop, hoping to reap the benefits financially, and to get some sort of praise and respect as a culture and community. But instead it backfired and now the rap culture is a joke and there are very few who knows what real the hip hop culture is. That generation didnt teach the youth what hip hop culture is. It just told the youth how uncultured they were. That generation stopped buying the music, the fashion, the literature, ans the merchandise. They abandoned hip hop, and the music industry changes it. There is a lesson in this. Dont sell your culture. Dont abandon it. And dont expect people to uphold it if youre not willing to maintain it. Because once someone buys it, they are not obligated to respect it.
