Before T.O. (Terrell Owens) and Johnny Football (Johnny Manziel) there was “The Boz”. Brian Bosworth aka The Boz was a highly decorated linebacker for the Oklahoma Sooners football team in the late eighties. The media dubbed him “The Boz” to celebrate his dominating persona on the football field. In adopting the name Brian Bosworth also became an over-hyped, self-centered, egomaniac, who cared more about promoting his image than playing football. Although his gifts as a player helped to create his false persona, he allowed the lure of fame and fortune to overtake his drive to be a successful football player. In life we can become obsessed by the idea of becoming something and lose the true intent of our life’s purpose. We study hard to get a degree or a promotion at work, but when the accolades and acceptance fill our egos with false pride we relish the admiration more than the dedication it took for us to achieve the goals. Don’t let the world paint a false picture of what your life should be. We want to live the lifestyles portrayed on television, “The Housewives of Lies and Drama”, “Keeping up with the Salacious Sirens”. The danger of chasing a lie is you will never find the truth. “No matter how much money I made and how many people looked up to me, it was never enough, I never had any peace or joy”, Brian Bosworth. If you forget your true purpose you will believe whatever lies appeal to your lusts. Don’t wish to be better than others, just pray to be the best you possible. Today I reject the lie of living large. I want to make a real difference in the world and not just feed my own ego. I see the corruption of being absolutely self-consumed. I embrace the dignity of those who give their life in service and integrity. I honor those who dedicate their life for the betterment of all not just the self. In this I am rewarded with fulfillment and joy instead of empty insatiable lust.
