Before the Armistice was signed (WWI) there was a terrible outbreak of the flu. Many of the mountain folk were down with the dreadful disease. Nearly everyone had it within her range of visiting, but in spite of that only there were only two deaths. She herself came down with the flu and was rendered helpless. She was alone. Several came to help her. While still very, very weak she heard a strange crackling at the back of my cabin. She was able to make it to the back door and to her surprise the whole ceiling was on fire. Those around were able to save just a few things. While she sat watching everything go up in flames, the words came to her, The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. She viewed this as just a setback. She had won the hearts of many who lived around and they took up money to build her another house. We must realize that everything is not going to be perfect in this world.
