Before the construction of all the bridges within the region, the San Francisco ferries were an important part of everyday life for many in the Bay Area. Being the only form of transportation in and out of the city, thousands of people relied on the ferries. The famous Ferry Building was then used as the main terminal. After the construction of many of the now iconic bridges of the Bay Area such as the Golden Gate Bridge, the necessity for the ferries had drastically reduced. Although many of the old lines are no longer existent, tourists and residents alike still come in the thousands to use the ferries which are still active today. The Ferry Building was reopened in the early 2000s to become one of the most popular tourists attractions within the city. The old baggage claim area has been renovated to become a gourmet marketplace featuring local goods. PS: While taking the ferries at daytime is fun, I recommend taking a ride at a later time because the night view of the city and the bridges are just AMAZING. 샌프란시스코 지역의 존재하는 수많은 대교들의 건설 전에는 지역의 주민들에게 연락선들이 생활하는데 아주 중요한 역할을 했습니다. 도시를 왔다 갈수 있는 유일한 교통수단이었던 연락선들은 수천 명의 사람들로 사용이 되었었죠. 이제 유명한 관광지가 되어버린 페리 빌딩(Ferry Building)은 그때는 연락선 이용객들을 위한 터미널이었죠. 금문교 같은 세계적으로 유명해진 대교들의 건설로 인해 연락선들의 필요성이 급격히 하락을 하게 되었습니다. 오늘날 옛날에 존재했던 수많은 노선들이 사라졌지만 아직도 수많은 관광객들과 주민들이 이용하는 교통수단으로 남아있죠. 페리 빌딩은 2000년도 초반에 다시 열려 도시 내에 가장 유명한 관광지 중 하나로 자리를 잡았습니다. 예전 짐 찾는 곳은 현지 특산품을 파는 고급 마켓으로 개조가 되었습니다.
