Before you conservatives open your mouths with assumptions, this is not about people not wanting to work. The requirement is that an individual be working 20 hours a week or be in a worksource program. Unemployment is still high and people are still struggling to find work and in many states, people dont have or have limited access to worksource programs. These cuts will not be absorbed by food banks and other agencies who just dont have the resources to serve the people who already need the help. No one wants to be on foodstamps. No one wants to deal with people staring at you as you pay for your meager groceries with your foodstamp card or people eyeing what you bought to make sure you bought dog food to eat and not anything they might deem a luxury. There is no pride in getting help to feed your self and or your family. We dont live in a country that gives any sort of dignity or uplift to our poor and we tend to kick them when they are down like with something like this. We have seemed to have accepted that poverty is okay and while we are sometimes willing, on a limited basis, to mitigate some of the effects of poverty, we arent willing to end it. The free market which is a joke wont end it and neither will programs.
