Beginning Tlingit Language Classes Offered As you may know, - TopicsExpress

Beginning Tlingit Language Classes Offered As you may know, less than 1% of Southeast Alaska Native people can speak their own language, and recent estimations have speakers of our languages at 150 for Tlingit, 4 for Haida, and 7 for Coastal Tsimshian. UAS has been working hard to offer all three languages with distance learning capabilities. They are currently offering Tlingit and Haida with distance options and Tsimshian in Ketchikan. This semester, there will be an Elementary Tlingit class with distance options that runs from 12–1 Monday through Thursday. This course will be offered on the Juneau campus and also through video conference on Google Hangouts broadcast. That means that anyone can watch the class through YouTube (https://youtube/UASANLS). Students can register for classes up until mid-September (uas.alaska.edu/). They have already started, but many classes have only met once or twice.
