Beginning just after Christmas each year New Life Church begins casting for the new season of “The Thorn,” the passion play of Easter. Hundreds of cast members begin their training to tell an age old story of love.. My daughter Jaimee has been a part of this production for over 15 years. In recent years she has taken on the job of directing heaven and hell scenes. The production has been so successful that it has become a mission for many and they have taken it on the road to such cities as Austin, Branson, Denver, Seattle, Nashville, Sacramento and, of course, Colorado Springs. Now that they are traveling Jaimee works with some of the fund-raising. Many of you already know about this production, but many do not. It’s a cross between the Passion of the Christ and Cirque du Soleil. It involves music, martial arts, ballet, state of the art technology, and drama, lots and lots of drama! They incorporate professional makeup artists to bring the story to life. They also do such mundane things like make arrangements with local fire departments for the necessary permits for the pyro-techniques, or make emergency runs when a sound board go bad and it’s minutes before the show begins. In addition to the show there is also the ministry at the end where hundreds of people line up to post a magnetic note with a prayer request on one of the several metal crosses on each side of the stage. Or, if you want immediate prayer, there are teams of intercessors who will pray with each individual for their needs. I’ve been a part of this group and can’t tell you how it’s blessed my sock off. So with that, I’ll post one of the trailers from a past performance to give you an idea of what takes so much of my daughter’s time this time of year.
