Behold, The Woodstock Singers, on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. I couldnt believe it when Patrick McNamara, an historian, sent me this clip, but my older Jesuit brothers said, Oh yes, the Woodstock Singers. They were on Ed Sullivan, you know. They also put out an album--or two, depending on which Jesuit you ask. Woodstock College was the Jesuit school of theology from 1869 to 1974, located in Woodstock, MD. Thanks to Peter Schineller, SJ, and Ray Salamone, SJ, (the former the New York archivist, the latter one of the original singers) for identifying the individual men. (+ means deceased; x means left the Jesuits.) Their provinces are listed beside their names: Maryland, New York, Chicago, Chile. Father Salamone noted that not many of these singers completed the course, that is, finished their formation. (Worldwide, about 30-40% of Jesuits who enter the novitiate complete the course.) Left to right: + Tom Smith (MAR); x Peter Esseff (MAR); x Juan Pnicheira (CHL); Don Vega (NYK); + Larry Madden (MAR); x+ John Daly (MAR); x Larry Jones (MAR); x Lou Savary (MAR); Ray Salamone (NYK); x Les Schnierer (CHG)
