Being an orphan in the world now (my mum went quickly, my dad even - TopicsExpress

Being an orphan in the world now (my mum went quickly, my dad even faster) the notion of reaching a stage in my life when I can no longer control my physical bits and pieces, let alone my rapidly disappearing mental faculties, leaves me in no doubt that my end would be disgracefully prolonged, messy and undignified. I have sat on the fence for a long time weighing the ups and the downs, the ins and the outs, the goods and the bads of what has become nicely called assisted dying and today, reading the most moving and erudite piece written by Archbishop Desmond Tutu on the very subject that is due to come up in parliament later this week has expressed views that I would have found very difficult to express myself - even with the humongous vocabulary I have at my disposable... so... may I urge you to take a moment to have a read and, perhaps, share your views with me. I would so love to see my fence come down... theguardian/society/2014/jul/12/desmond-tutu-assisted-dying-right-to-die-nelson-mandela
