This teen smothered her baby so her mother wouldnt find out. The Story: A Michigan teen is facing an open murder charge after police say she smothered her newborn daughter because she was afraid her mother would find out she had given birth. The baby’s body was found last Monday partially buried behind an apartment complex on Shonat Street in Muskegon. Detectives canvassed the area and learned that one of the residents’ grandchildren may have been pregnant. According to court documents, police say the granddaughter, 17-year-old Jessica Brewster, admitted that she gave birth to the baby girl in the bathroom at her 5th Street home around 4 a.m. on October 15. Soon after birth, the baby began to cry and Brewster thought she heard someone coming down the hall, the documents allege. According to a police detective, Brewster admitted she then covered the girl’s face with a towel to silence her and kept it there until the baby stopped moving. Police allege Brewster then hid the baby in a towel until the following day, when they say she took the child to the Shonat Street senior housing complex where her grandmother lived and buried her behind the building.
