SINGAPORE TOUR FOR KCR Koride.Mahesh@timesgroup CM To Examine Possibility Of Borrowing The Citys Industrial Policy And Attracting Investment To Telangana State Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will have a first-hand experience on the functioning of the Singapore Development Board and examine the industrial policy of the country during his first visit abroad after taking reins of the new state. The chief minister is to fly to Singapore on August 20 accompanied by finance minister Etela Rajender and a team of senior officials. KCR, whose visit to Singapore is in response to an invitation to address the IIM professionals alumni global meet IIMPact 2014, will return to Hyderabad on August 23. KCR is expected to make a pitch for attracting industrial and other investments in Telangana during his address to the IIM alumni meet on August 22.The chief minister has more than once said his government would like to implement an industrial policy akin to the one administered by the Singapore government. KCR also expressed keenness to create a development board for Telangana on the lines of the Singapore Development Board. IIMPACT 2014 is being organized by the Pan IIM Alumni, Singapore, on August 22 and 23 and the chief minister has been invited to talk on `Two States: Challenges and Opportunities After. KCR is the only chief minister from India to take part in the meet. The meet is expected to focus on individuals who have brought about revolutionary changes in industry, various vocations and professions. “Around 1,000 delegates, mostly chief executive officers of various corpora tions from across the globe will be at the meet and the chief minister wants to utilize this opportunity,“ a senior official of industries department told TOI. The chief minister, who wants to transform Hyderabad into a global city, is expected to visit the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore on August 22. The URA of Singapore was created to make Singapore a great city to live, work and play. The authority which was created in 1960s has made remarkable changes in housing, infrastructure and other facilities for citizens with limited land availability. In addition to meeting with global investors, KCR is to visit JTC Corporation, the lead agency in Singapore that has spearheaded planning, promotion and development of industries in that country during the last four decades. The chief minister will also visit Ascendas, Asias leading business space providers. “Unlike Singapore, in our state there is not dearth of land. Over three lakh acres of land is being identified for industrial purpose,“ a senior official of Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation said. KCR who is keen on developing sports and recreation facilities in Hyderabad, will visit Singapore Sports Hub, a state of the art and fully integrated sports and entertainment hub including lifestyle facilities. The sports hub was recently opened by Singapore government.
