Believing Is Seeing Youve likely heard that seeing is believing. A thought that goes along with what most believe to science. Let me tell you a story that I heard. Neville Goddard, a spiritual and Biblical teacher of the last century, was from Barbados, the beautiful Caribbean island (I visited there in the late 1970s). He was living in New York City in 1931, during the great depression. He was a professional dancer on Broadway. However, almost no shows were running due to the depression. He was broke and living in a basement. Millions were sleeping in parks and subway stations. His friend, Abdullah, lived a few blocks away in a very nice apartment with all the material things he could want. Neville wanted to go back and visit his home in Barbados because it had been many years since hed been there. But, he had no money. He asked Abduallah about his plight and Abdullah said, You are in Barbados now. Imagine it to be. Imagine yourself in your mothers home, the fresh scent of the sea air and New York about 2,000 miles to the north of you. Neville thought he was crazy, but he did what Ab told him to do. He did this every day for about two weeks. Nothing happened. He went back to Ab and told him that it didnt work. Ab got angry at him and slammed the door in his face. Shortly thereafter, Neville returned to his rented room and found a letter that the postman had left. It was from his brother and contained $50 and a note that said that a first class ticket awaited him at the office of the passenger ship back to Barbados. He knew nothing about Nevilles desire to return and actually part of the note was to convince Neville to come. When Neville saw it, he went to the ships ticket office in order to procure the ticket. They apologized and said that though his reservation had been made, he would have to sleep in third class accommodations because all the others were taken. Neville went back and told Ab of his exciting news. He told Ab, Im going to Barbados, but Ill have to sleep in third class accommodations. Ab said, Who told you that YOU ARE GOING to Barbados and that you didnt travel there first class? Again, Ab was a bit rude about it. Later, Neville was to find out that a cancellation had been made for first class and that he would indeed travel first class both ways to Barbados. He made the trip and had a wonderful time with his family.
