"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers (3 john 1:2)." John is praying that Gaius prospers in all things, that he grows and produce good fruit, multiply, profits, does well in all areas of his life. He also wished good health. The phrase to proper and be in good health was a common phrase wishing others to succeed. God wishes that we, His Church, prospers in all areas of our lives, which is why He blesses us in all areas of our lives. Just remember that "we have not because we ask not (Jas 4:2). When we trust in God and follow His will, he will protect us and answer our prayers. Notice how John separates body and soul here? He prays that we may prosper in all things (material) and in health (body), just as our soul prospers. If our bodies could prosper as our spirit and soul, there would be much more prosperity in the world, unfortunately, many take their will back and there may be only half the Christians that are now saved.
