Ben and I found out about the history of our house; it is sinister and above all tragic. During WWII, a Jewish family lived here - above their own tailor store which is now the restaurant we live above. We came to know that all the family members (father, mother and their four children) have been deported to and died in Auschwitz. The parents and the daughter died in 1942 and the three sons in 1944. Lately we grew very tired of this house with an urgent will to move ... but I can ensure you, that the knowledge of this horrible piece of history attached to it, absolutely changed our view on the house. When we walk down the stairs now, we cannot help but think how this family got arrested and led down the stairs by the Germans to meet their utterly tragic demise.
