Benton County OR Solid Waste Advisory Committee meeting today. Our annual dinner at the dump instead of an in-town county office meeting site. I took a wrong turn and found myself on the access road to the methane-to-electricity building rather than the operations office another 1/2 mile down the road. As I proceeded on the access road, a group of 20? 30? elk decided they should be on the other side of the road. From wild turkeys in town, Ive learned that the way to address groups of wildlife on the road is to advance slowly 5-10 mph? A six-point bull brought up the rear. As I passed through the gate, a hawk - all fluffed out for the cooler sunset temps - took flight from the gatepost. When I FINALLY arrived at the meeting room it was beautifully decorated for the holidays. Can it REALLY be true that its been five years since we last reviewed the value of the landfill liner failure insurance policy?
