Best line ever! I wrote this in my NaNoWriMo session this morning. I love it. This is Earl Isaac Turners mother talking to Lady Calico Collins of Ireland. If you read Calico: Children of the Shawnee this woman is Calicos great aunt and is who my character is named after. Calico and the duchess stared at each other in a long moment of silence. Calico stared at her rosary. How typical for Kathleen to have left the room when the going get tough. She had been scared of the repercussions of their actions against the Turner family and now that all their scheming might have been caught Kathleen didn’t know what to say out of fear. Calico exhaled a deep breath as the grey haired woman silently sat across from her. All she had to do was treat this woman like Bailey. Don’t give too much information away or it would ruin everything but give just enough not to raise her suspicions. She lifted the rosary and examined it as if she had never seen it before then laid it back on the table. “I don’t see what this little trinket has to do with my sister and I,” she proclaimed as she pushed back to the duchess. “Oh, you don’t? Well that surprises me since it was your husband who gave it to my son.” Calico swallowed hard. “Tell me Lady Calico, who names their daughter after fabric? Your older sister has a very elegant name yet your name speaks of poverty. No upperclass family would ever degrade their child with a name like yours.”
