Betting Tips : Volvo China Open The Volvo China Open has been played since 1995 but its one tournament that never seems to have a true home. After two years at Binhai, it’s on the move again, this time moving to the short and tricky Genzon Golf Club. It’s always tough to tip winners on a virgin course, but we still have current and Asian form to work with. Jason Dufner 12/1 So why would Jason Dufner, the all time biggest earner in the history of the Zurich Classic Of New Orleans, choose to come to play in China this week? It can only be down to a massive appearance fee given that this is the 20th anniversary staging. Last time we saw Dufner his shoulders were down at Augusta but don’t forget about that T14 at Innisbrook and a T9 at the difficult new Doral when assessing his season so far. Think he’s well worth a punt this week. Pablo Larrazabal 28/1 There was something quite striking about the way Pablo punched the air on the 72nd hole in Malaysia last week given that he tied eighth. It meant more to him; meant that his recent bad run is over and he can contend again. And all that given he was stung 20 times in a hornet attack. For me, Pablo does tend to operate in bursts. His last visit to China was a T5 at Paul McLoughlin’s Lake Malaren; that came at the end of a month long run of good finishes for the Spaniard which included good performances in Holland, Scotland and Portugal. He also has three top 10’s in the last four Volvo China Opens whether it was staged in Binhai, Luxehills or Suzhou. Certainly one to watch. Nicolas Colsaerts 25/1 Proved that given the right course he is still very dangerous despite missing his last three cuts on the PGA Tour (Arnie, Valero, Houston). That T2 in Malaysia was his first top 10 since last year’s Italian Open and comes just in the nick of time as Nico returns to an event where he has earned more than anyone over the past four years; T8 in 2010, winner in Luxehills in 2011 and second to Branden Grace in 2012. Probably wont get away with being 67th in putts per round as he was in Malaysia but well worth a look nonetheless. Julien Quesne 40/1 The shorter Genzon course could potentially suit Julien who I really fancy for a good performance this week. Struggled a little with distance in Malaysia but thanks to some excellent putting scored a T5. Closing in his 100th Tour starts, Quesne already has his win in Italy. Francesco Molinari 25/1 I’m at a loss to explain how Francesco didn’t kick on after his T5 at Bay Hill and instead got beaten up at Augusta and didn’t fair much better in Malaysia. But it still think Francesco is on his way back to form and I always like him in China. Tied second on his last visit to the country at the BMW Masters and Shanghai was also the site of his biggest win, the 2010 WGC HSBC Champions. His best result in the Volvo Golf Champions is a T6 in 2012. There must be something in the smog over here.
