‘Bharat Ratan’ – Need to preserve its solemnity ***************************************************** Without making any comment on the recipients of Bharat Ratan till now, I request the government to maintain its grace, dignity and solemnity as the highest civilian award of the country.I am anguished to see that gradually it is falling in the trap of communal and caste politics, as is seen in the arguments of MS Mayawati, while pleading for its conferment on Late Kanshi Ram. I make a fervent appeal to the government to immediately dispense with the practice of conferring ‘ Bharat Ratan’ on any person posthumously, otherwise it will open the floodgates which will be impossible to control.
