Bible isnt a history textbook. It isnt a biography of great heroes of the faith. It isnt a document from which you can provide a constitution for a truly Christian nation. It is the witness to Jesus Christ, God with us, Gods message of judgment and salvation. The Bible is the record of the encounter between Jesus Christ and the prophets and the apostles, the prophets as they look forward to his coming, the apostles as they look back at him and look forward to his coming again. As Holy Scripture the Bible is inspired by the Holy Spirit and is the only measuring stick by which we can measure truth in theology and preaching. God speaks to us and reveals himself in its pages by the Spirit. But the Bibles authority in the Church rests on the fact that God truly spoke to the prophets and apostles. Therefore the Bible acts as a measuring stick for truth in the Church not through any private or super spiritual interpretation of the Bible, but by the plain meaning of the Bible read and understood as a witness to Jesus Christ. --praveen chintha
