Biblical teachings prepared by All Nations for Christ Gospel Ministry No 058/2009 Meekness is not Weakness (Good for Evil, Examples of Returning) Meekness--Retaliation Examples of Meekness 1. Moses Nu 12:3 2. David 2Sa 16:11 3. Jeremiah Jer. 26:14 4. Stephen Ac 7:60 5. Paul 2Ti 4:16 The Bible widely explain about the story of King David from the position of shepherd to king. God has chosen him from Jessie’s family after the permissive will of God of King Saul. It was not the perfect will of God choosing Saul as the king of Israel but the people of God asked. As the Bible recorded clearly Saul was the donkey finder. And he was not a right man to be a leader of the covenant people because God’s plan is always perfect. The Bible is the divine word of God to give us the accurate and precise evidence about any record which is in it. Succeeding to Saul’s death king David overtook the dynasty and lead Israel in difficult times. 2 Samuel 16:5-14 when we observe this portion of scripture, the man called Shimei cursed King David. Shimei was the man who comes from Saul’s family clan and he has boldness to insult (curses) the right king of Israel because of his evil desire. He said that “Get out, get out, you man of blood, you scoundrel! The Lord has rapid you for all the blood you shed in the household of Saul, in whose place you have reigned. The Lord has handed the kingdom over to your son Absalom. You have come to ruin because you are a man of blood.” I don’t know even in our day’s some people are gallant to curse in addition to open their mouth for any unlawful matter. The civil Law has serious action for anything which is in the constitution. So that anybody can follow the law and peacefully live according to it. For instance when somebody insult or abuse the president the law will deal with him. And he can’t live serenely without punishment. In the same way during Old Testament God has given the Law for his beloved people intended for any activity in the kingdom. However, for Shimei the law is not the rule to live and acting like a man who put his position upon anybody else. It was a difficult times for the people of Israel to solve Shimei’s problem with king. The military officials of King David were around him with special guard, and protected him with high security. Although, he was not concentrate on it, the government officials were following him. During that time the government officials told to other Army officers to beheaded Shimei, however, they did not do anything upon him. Other followers of David decided to do something upon the man and asked the king that “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go and cut off his head.” Abishai the son of Zeruiah had a desire to kill the man, and finish the case forever, but it was not the king’s desire. When we were there we will also have a desire like him and decide to do something which is contrary with the law of God. (Ex. 20:13 you shall not murder). King David was not like other king who decided by approaching anybody. He has power and authority to do anything like killing and cam say put him in prison in the time of Shimei’s nonsense talk. But he said, “… if he is cursing because the Lord said to him, ‘curse David,’ who can ask ‘why do you do this?” “And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite does it? Let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD hath bidden him. It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will require me good for his cursing this day. And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill’s side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust. And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.” Most of the people in our days will not accept the persistence of David and going to other place for the rebellious movement of his son Abaslom and Shimei. However, for David meekness was not weakness. He knew God is in control in any situations and affliction, which revealed to separate him from the love of God. Do you believe that David is mistaken? According to me he is right because when God does that he must accept. Whether the reason is tangible or not accepting the things by the grace of God is the right decision. It is the life principle that truth will remain forever. And to judge in addition to make it proper is belongs to the Lord. It is difficult from time to time to make ourselves humble like King David. However, things will come like the same way in our life to be a challenge but God is in control in our meekness to give us victory. Amen!!! Prepared by Rev.
