Big Data and Ethics Symposium December 5 @ 2pm Good morning, Id like to invite you to attend a symposium on The Ethics Behind the Use of Big Data: Understanding the Boundaries, which will take place on Friday, December 5 in Council Chambers (Gilmour Hall 111) from 2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. I hope you can join us for a frank discussion on how we use data in our research and the boundaries we should draw in using these data for respecting privacy and receiving ethics clearance. The afternoon will include short presentations by four McMaster researchers, who will briefly discuss their use of data and their experiences with a variety of ethical and privacy challenges. This symposium is open to everyone in the McMaster community who uses data in their research, and has been organized by the Office of the Vice-President of Research & International Affairs, the McMaster University Library, and the McMaster Research Ethics Board. If you have any colleagues, members of your research team or graduate students who would be interested in this event, please share this invitation with them. However, because space is limited, we ask that you reserve your seat by sending an email to [email protected]. A draft agenda can be found at: research.mcmaster.ca/macdata-symposium Sincerely, Mo Elbestawi -- Office of the Vice-President Research & International Affairs McMaster University Gilmour Hall 208 1280 Main Street West Hamilton, ON L8S 4L8 905-525-9140 x27270
