Big Dumb News 8-05-2013 SHARK FOUND OUTSIDE NANTUCKET PUB This is not something you sea every day! A five-foot-long shark carcass was found dumped in front of the door to a pub in Nantucket last week! A cleaning crew made the discovery at Sea Dog Brew Pub and the Nantucket public works department was called to haul the dead marine creature away. Pub manager Jimmy Agnew says he has no idea why anyone would have put the shark there. But we have a theory: Sharknado! CHEF CLAIMS MOUSE DROPPINGS WERE SPRINKLES Not exactly the ideal wedding cake topper! A chef at a mice-infested wedding bake shop tried to convince inspectors that the mouse droppings found in his ingredients were actually chocolate sprinkles! When inspectors entered the basement of Bake & Cake in central London, they found it covered in rodent filth and filled with discarded food, piles of sawdust and dirty machinery. They observed cake icing embedded with mouse poop, but the chef insisted they were chocolate vermicelli used for cakes and buns. The shop was shut down immediately, ordered to undergo an extensive cleanup and paid a fine. They reopened ten days later and received a clean inspection in June. Still, we’d make sure to look twice at the sprinkles from now on. MAN PAYS INSURANCE MONEY WITH QUARTERS This makes a lot of cents. A man in Missouri paid $500,000 in insurance money using tons of quarters! Roger Herrin was apparently protesting a court order that forced him to repay the insurance money he had received for the death of his son. Herrin’s teenage son was the only one of four passengers who died in a car crash in 2001, and because of that, Herrin had received the bulk of the $800,000 insurance settlement. The other crash victims and their families contested this, and won. So to stick it to the court, Herrin paid approximately a third of the money back in quarters – a haul that weighed nearly four tons and caused a whole lot of inconvenience. But it could have been worse. "I really wanted to do it in pennies,” Herrin said.
