Big Lambing day, I will try to post some pics from my phone. Im driving home, coming up on the driveway when I see the flock is in the fold below the woods on our eastern edge. I notice the flock is coming down the far side. I see a dark object above the flock, and I get worried. In the driveway, I go up the farm road and come down on the east side of the woods, driving slowly. I see the flock run off. I notice a mother and 2 babies, newborn, or relatively new born. She is going slow and making sure the kids stay with her. I notice a white spot a bit further down. I drive down. Its another lamb. Clean, but still moist, so born today. The mother calls it, but the lamb is confused and doesnt run to her. (I have seen mothers pick up kids who are straggling and bring them to the flock). I pick the little lamb up and put her in the back seat, and drive home. At the big barn, where all the sheep have congregated, I take the little one out. Of course she (I checked) runs from me. I gently follow her and push her towards the flock. Low and behold there is a new mother. She starts calling, and the lamb walks around towards her. Mom accepts baby, calls it and lets her get in a quick suck or two. By now, Susan, and Rachel, return home. As we go to look at the goat pen, we notice a Giant white spot at the top of one of the horse fields. We realize its another mother. We drive up to check, but she is fine. She was resting and waiting with her newborns for the herd to come back. So, at least 6 lambs today, and possibly more. I want to recommend Jos. A. Banks suits. I was wearing mine while doing this. The suit held up well, and you would never guess it spent time in the field helping lambs.
