UCSF has launched a 10-year global initiative to reduce premature birth - the number one cause of death among newborns and the second leading cause of death among kids under 5 - both at home and abroad. The project will be funded by a $100 million grant from Lynne and Marc Benioff and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The initiative aims both to help communities implement existing strategies and to develop new strategies against preterm birth and its health repercussions.
