Bijbehara, Aug 24: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Saturday said that people are best judges to gauge the performance of his Government, adding that work done on the ground would speak loud and clear for his people-friendly policies. Talking to media persons at Adar after laying foundation of a bridge, theChief Minister said that he has faith in Almighty and public support. “People will judge us on our performance and achievements”, he said and added that the report card of the Government is in the public domain and it will be further elaborated well before theElection-2014. “We believein Almighty and public support is our highest strength”, he added. The Chief Minister while interacting with the students after inaugurating Rs 10 crore college complex for Degree College at Bijbehara said that youth are the architect of new and modern Jammu and Kashmir asking them to take their studies seriouslyand prove their merit and ability at all levels. “You are future of the State and in your hands is the progress, prosperity and well-being of the people of Jammu and Kashmir”, he told the students in an interaction session with them. The college presently imparts education in the subjects of General English,Urdu, History, Education, Environment Sciences, Economics, Islamic Studies,Arabic, Applied Mathematics, Computer Applications, Political Science, Zoology, Botany, Chemistry and Physics. Theenrolment has grown up to 2175 students at present which include 976male and 1199 female students. The students asked various questions to the Chief Minister on different subjects including socio-economic development of the State, Government policies pertaining to the universalization of elementary and higher education and the inclusive development of the State. The Chief Minister said thathis Government is giving due attention to the process of expansion and consolidation in the education sector. He said accessibility to higher education has been flagged as an important concern so that students living in villages and far off places have ample opportunity to pursue their higher educational goals. Omar Abdullah laid stress on making education an apolitical sector and creating befitting educational environment in the schools, colleges and universities so that development of human resource take place in its right perspective and the educational institutions produce talented, qualifiedand capable human resource. He asked the students to devote fullest attention to their holistic educational development as they have to face various challenges in their life after coming out from the educational institutions. The Chief Minister also laidfoundation of Rs 13 crore Trauma Hospital at Bijbehara and a Modern Fruit and Vegetable Marketat Jablipora. He also laid foundation of Rs 5.62 crore-Bridge at Saphen Adar near here. The 50 metre long bridge would benefit a population of 10,000 souls residing in six villages in the Bijbehara constituency. The Chief Minister said thatthe Jablipora Fruit and Vegetable Mandi will give impetus to the fruit marketing in Bijbehara and adjacent areas and generate various economic activities for locals. He said the fruit market will be developed over an area of 440 kanals. The proposed market is just half a kilometre away from Highway and adjacent to the railway track. The completion of the market is likely to costRs 35 crores. Approximately 600 shop sites would be developed in the market besides Auction Platform, Market Yards, Weighing Bridge, Administrative Block, Bank, Post Office, Cold Storage, Kissan Ghar, CableNetwork, High-mast lights,etc. Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Minister for Horticulture, Raman Bhalla, Minister of State forHealth, Shabir Ahmad Khan, Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, Legislator and Provincial President Kashmir National Conference, Nasir Aslam Wani and MLC, Dr. B. A. Veeri were accompanying the Chief Minister.
