Bill To Make It Illegal To Smoke In A Car Carrying Children Edges Nearer. An amendment to the Children and Families Bill could soon be pushed through by Labour peers in a bid to make it illegal to smoke in a car whilst carrying children. The reason behind the bill is to work towards improving the health of children, and to help discourage people from smoking around youngsters generally. A ban on smoking in a car whilst carrying children is already in place in a number of states in America, along with countries such as Canada, Australia, and a few European countries. Should the bill be passed, it will be set in place alongside the smoking ban in workplaces and many enclosed public spaces which was passed in England way back in 2007.
