Biographies of Gopinath Munde and Pramod Mahajan throw up a factoid nobody is talking about. Its a benign face of Hindu society, generally considered prejudiced along caste lines. The Mahajans are Deshastha Brahmins, the Mundes Vanjaris (OBC). Yet Pramod and Gopinath were brothers-in-law. In a debate some days ago, I argued how people cutting across caste lines rallied behind Narendra Modi. It was a personality that made all other considerations petty and useless. In that very debate, when the opponent invoked Swami Vivekananda, I told him nobody was bothered about the fact that the monk started his life as Narendra Dutta, a Kayastha and not a Brahmin. Dear fellow Indians, we can overcome this grossly unscientific concept of caste. We dont have to take inspiration from the White West. Examples abound in this country. Khudi ko kar buland itna ke har taqdeer se pahle banda bande se na poochhe bataa teri jaat kya hai.
