Black Envy. A new programme launched in RSA intends to create a 100 black industrialists over the next three years. Much welcome but a few number of years ago I proposed a similar initiative for Namibia but it died a natural death through institutional inertia and plain policy wobbling. Or perhaps the term Black as an operative word is not so palatable yet on these shores. I sincerely hope that the RSA initiative will at least in the end yield 15 sustainable industrial firms. Its what is needed for structural change of our economies, but we will have to live with quite some steep failures as well. So Namibia lets go for a target of 30 and at least create 5 sustainable ones. Bring on industrialisation for economic emancipation in our lifetime!
