Black coal, Ice Thin Aka : 白日焰火 2 differents titles for one movie, the european title refers to clues/place inside the movie. the chinese title is more adapted to the movie according to me.... Tonight i was able to see it, that movie received the Berlin International Film Festival Golden Bear. The main character, Fan liao received a silver Bear for it. So i was expecting a very good investigation police movie. First i have to say that This Movie looks very different from chinese commercial movies. We visit a part of china totally poor and the way of life there is far from what you can see from other chinese movies. that movie looks probably more realistic about that fact.the action took place between 1999/2004 but the cars looks so old, the appartments looks like slums.we are in 2XXX but i feel like they are living in 1970... SO it is definitelly not a movie who will makes europeans want to visit china for sure :) It is more a place where the rate of people commiting suicide should be high because it is so depressing to live there.:) To be honest the main word/idea after watching this movie is : SO WEIRD The most weirdest thing in this movie will be the end. the main parts of this movie are ok and coherent, but the end is too WEIRD/strange. There are a lot of chinese movies who will never be exported in europe but this one was. ok that movie received rewards but for average european i really do not think they will enjoy it. To me it is not the best advertissment for the chinese cinema in europe. About Lun Mei Gwei, she is cute as a simple poor chinese lady, much better than in the real life it seems :) After i watched her filmography i was able to remind myself that she was playing in secret/不能说的秘密 a movie realised by the Taiwanese singer Jay chou.
