Blessed St. Marina--what can be said about her? She is known in many different religions as a martyr for Christ. Here she is depicted as having been thrown into prison for refusing the marriage offer of Olybrius, Governor of the Roman Diocese of the East. Because he would have required her to renunciate her Christian beliefs, she was hideously tortured for many days. Each night it was said that the Archangel Michael would visit her, comfort her and heal her wounds. It was said that on the last night a demon appeared in her cell and that he devoured her. But upon feeling the impact of the holy cross she wore around her neck in his stomach, she escaped. From that time on, she became known for her ability to obtain dominion over demons--because of her extreme piety and strength, she became known as a very powerful feminine figure in the pantheon of the saints of various religions. It is said that she is predisposed to grant very powerful assistance to those who ask for her intercessions...
