Blowing snow warning for City of Winnipeg Dugald - Beausejour - Grand Beach Morden - Winkler - Altona - Emerson - Morris Portage la Prairie - Headingley - Brunkild - Carman Selkirk - Gimli - Stonewall - Woodlands - Eriksdale Steinbach - St. Adolphe - Dominion City - Vita - Richer issued Poor visibilities in blowing snow overnight and Wednesday morning. A building ridge of high pressure in Saskatchewan will bring another surge of cold Arctic air into Southern Manitoba tonight. Winds will increase to 40 km/h gusting to 60 km/h overnight throughout the Red River Valley. Combined with the freshly fallen snow in the area, widespread blowing snow with visibilities below 800 metres is expected. Visibilities will begin to improve Wednesday morning as the winds diminish. Meanwhile, temperatures will fall tonight to around -25 degrees Celsius. As the winds increase overnight, extreme wind chill values in the -40 to -45 range are expected. At these extreme wind chill values frostbite on exposed skin may occur in less than 10 minutes. Moreover, temperatures are not expected to recover much, if at all, throughout the day Wednesday. Hence, the threat of extreme wind chill will continue for most of the day despite weakening winds in the morning. Temperatures will bottom out near -30 degrees Celsius Wednesday night before recovering on Thursday. Elsewhere in Southern Manitoba, local blowing snow with reduced visibilities at times is possible tonight and wind chill values will drop to near warning levels in the -35 to -40 range. As the cold air persists into Wednesday, there is the possibility more warnings may be issued as conditions develop.
