Blues veteran James Armstrong will be playing at the Capitol Oyster Bar this Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Born in Los Angeles, Armstrong’s mother was a blues singer and his father played jazz guitar. James started performing at the age of eight and by the time he was 17, he was touring across the country. Over the years he’s worked with Albert Collins, Keb Mo, Coco Montoya, Roy Brown, Joe Louis Walker, Chaka Khan, Ricky Lee Jones, Peter Tork, and Tommy Castro. I’ve had several opportunities to see James, including at COB and at the 2009 Pocono Blues Festival and can tell you that he puts on an entertaining show. He has earned two Blues Music Award nominations and his latest cd, “Guitar Angels” continues his authentic, contemporary fresh take on the blues. The music starts at 5:00 p.m. Cover charge is $10.00. The Capitol Oyster Bar is located at 617 Shady Street and the phone number is (334) 239-8958. capitoloysterbar.
