Boko Haram ceasefire: Operation continues until… – Army Defence Headquarters in Abuja, yesterday, said the ceasefire agreement signed between Federal Government and the Boko Haram sect had not been communicated to it. Consequently, Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-General Chris Olukolade, said the military operation to rid the North-East part of the country of terrorists would continue. Olukolade noted that the issue of ceasefire was the outcome of the political element of the attempt to solve the Boko Haram crisis, adding that questions on the ceasefire should be directed to the political authority. He said: “As for the operational aspect, it will be maintained. So far, there has been no directive to stop the operation. We will not succumb to any deception whether ceasefire or not until otherwise directed by government.” Flanked by the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Kabir Aliyu, Director of Air force Public Relations, Air Commodore Yusuf Anas, Force Spokesman, CSP Frank Mba and the Spokesperson of the SSS, Marylin Ogar, Olukolade said the outcome of the assessment teams sent to the operational areas was to help security agencies analyse challenges, new trends of the terrorists and come up with ways of countering them. On the restoration of GSM services in Borno and Yobe states, as requested by Yobe State governor, Olukolade said there was ongoing security evaluation with respect to GSM services in the two states, pointing out that if things improved, appropriate steps would be taken in that direction as was done in the case of Adamawa state.
