Boosting the economy through Australias Migration Programme. Australias planning level for the 2014 - 2015 Migration Programme is set at 190,000 places. Migration has played a key role in shaping Australian society and building Australia’s economy through supporting the Australian labour market. According to DIBP’s media release in May, 2014, Minister Morrison has stated that “The Abbott Government is ensuring our migration programme matches the nations economic and skills needs while also contributing to a cohesive and strong community.” So, government has allocated almost 190,000 places for the 2014 – 2015 Migration Programme which comprises around 68% - 128,550 places for the skill stream including employer sponsored migrants, general skilled migrants and business migrants and especially will reprioritize employer-sponsored visas. And how this Migration Programme works? It is usually planned by each year based on community views, economic and labour force forecasts, international research, Net Overseas Migration, both internal external modelling, and a comprehensive consultation across Australia. The extend of future Australian skill shortages in the workforce will especially affect how these visa categories can be distributed within the final Migration Programme. Trade skills SHORTAGE across Western Australian building and construction industry has emerged as a significant and increasing problem in recent years. There are 7,000 fewer local people training for apprenticeships and many experienced professionals leaving the workplace for retirement in last year. Besides this, there is also even a prediction of trade skills shortage of 45,000 workers in the next three years as the building and construction industry is still constantly growing.
