Bosch continues to air its vacuum cleaner promotion in which a tiger is used. They have not even had the courtesy to respond to public concerns about this abuse of a wild animal. Even if you have already contacted Bosch, please contact them and politely tell them that causing wildlife to be in captivity and using them in advertisements or similar venues is inappropriate and cruel. Animals arent actors, spectacles to imprison and gawk at, or circus clowns. Yet thousands of these animals are forced to perform silly, confusing tricks under the threat of physical punishment; are carted across the country in cramped and stuffy boxcars or semi-truck trailers; are kept chained or caged in barren, boring, and filthy enclosures; and are separated from their families and friends—all for the sake of human entertainment. Many of these animals even pay with their lives. Despite your assurances that Noah was well cared for during filming, Bosch cannot guarantee that Noah will not have suffered off-set. Investigations have time and again shown that, in the main, any discipline or abuse of animals in entertainment tends to occur behind the scenes, where no-one will see it. Abuse usually occurs off set and behind the scenes, while the animals are being trained or kept isolated in their cages, deprived of all the normal, social and mental stimulation that they would enjoy in the wild. I voice my opposition to the use of animals in this way! So I urge you to adopt a ‘no animals policy’ for future advertising campaigns. Animals Are Not Ours For Entertainment Animal Actors Sure, onscreen they may seem like natural actors with the ability to ham it up like no other. But animals used in movies and television dont lead pampered lives like many of their human counterparts do. Animals are confused by the things that directors and trainers expect them to do when the cameras are rolling. The only reason they perform these confusing acts is to escape the abuse thats bound to be waiting for them if they dont obey, including physical abuse: A primatologist who spent 14 months working undercover for a facility that trains great apes for film and television saw trainers kick and punch the animals to make them be obedient. In this age of computer-generated imagery and animatronics—think King Kong—there is absolutely no need for real animals to be on the sets of TV shows and films. Sincerely,
