Bowden 1st XI travelled to Grendon and Prims in search their early season form. On a slow, dry wicket Bowden lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Things began well with openers John Lee and Karl Pollard providing a decent platform for the Bowden innings. But the loss of Lee for 23 hastened the demise of the innings. A lack of patience and application saw Bowden to continue to lose wickets at regular intervals as the runs started to dry up. Charlie Standley (31) and Joe Whitworth (21) providing the only real scores of substance as Bowden were bowled out for 156 in the forty eighth over. Grendon looked to attack from the beginning of their innings and grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck. Bowden’s bowling was poor and often wayward as Steve Hanwell (29), Ian Hamilton (30) and Dan Wood (56 not out) cruised to the victory target for the loss of just three wickets in 27.4 overs. Bowden look to rectify their poor form next Saturday when they travel to Geddington.
