James Sprunt Community College 2014 Summer Camps JSCC will offer unique camps for rising 6th - 12th graders, where kids can learn, make new friends, expand their interests, and have fun. REGISTRATION: May 5 through June 13, 2014 First come first served. Don’t delay - Seats fill up quickly. • Payment must be made at the time of registration. • A release form must be submitted at the time of registration. Camps will be offered at several sites Main Campus in Kenansville WestPark Campus in Warsaw E.E. Smith Middle School Refund Policy: There are no refunds for self-supporting classes. Culinary Boot Camp.............. $55.00 Learn knife skills, sanitation procedures and proper food handling during this exciting week of hands-on classes. You are also introduced to the fundamentals of cooking: making soups and sauces, pasta, grilling, stewing, roasting and sautéing techniques. June 23 – June 26 (M-Th), 8 – 12 noon, 6 – 8th grade, 1 to 5 pm, 9 – 12th grade August 4 – August 7 (M-Th), 8 – 12 noon, 6 – 8th grade, 1 to 5 pm, 9 – 12th grade Pastry Boot Camp...........$85.00 Learn your way around a professional bake shop. We cover everything from breads to pizza to cupcakes and cinnamon rolls. This camp fills quickly, so grab a friend and get baking. June 30 – July 3 (M-Th), 8 to 4 pm, 6 – 12th grade Young Artists!..................... $55.00 This summer, you can create artwork in several mediums, including pencils, charcoal, crayon, pastels, paint and plaster. Explore multiple techniques and processes, including mixed media. Draw, paint, sculpt and create your own fantastic artwork inspired by things you like and your surroundings. July 7 – July 10 (M-Th), 8 to 12 noon, 6 – 8th grade, 1 to 5 pm, 9 -12th July 21 – July 24 (M-Th), 8 to 12 noon, 6 – 8th grade, 1 to 5 pm, 9 -12th Writing Camp................. $55 (Half day), $85 (Full day) “The Write of Expression” Find out how to translate your thoughts and feelings into written form—poetry, short stories, essays, journals, blogs, stage plays, or movie scripts. Learn about different writing methods and how to simplify the writing process. You will be guided through each step, from your original idea to the final edited version of your written creation. July 7 – July 10 (M-Th), 8 to 12 noon, 6 – 8th grade, 1 to 5 pm, 9 -12th July 14 – July 17 (M-Th) 8 to 4 pm, 6 – 8th grade July 21 –July 24 (M-Th), 8 to 4 pm, 9 -12th grade July 28 –July 31 (M-Th), 8 to 12 noon, 6 – 8th grade, 1 to 5 pm, 9 -12th grade CSI – Crime Scene Investigation..$55.00 (Half day), $85.00 (Full day) Search for evidence, gather clues, and discover how science can help solve a mystery. Campers will dust for fingerprints, analyze handwriting, test for blood type using simulated blood, examine hair and clothing fibers, practice chemistry to identify mystery substances and much more. After all that, you can use your new skills to solve crimes of the century. Basketball camps are not only a time to improve your skills on the court, but to make friends playing the game you love. This camp will teach not only skills like shooting and dribbling, but also skills like teamwork and selfesteem building. Through lots of interactive and competitive play, kids can learn valuable life skills that can aid them on an ongoing basis. These camps are designed to give campers an edge in the highly competitive world of cheerleading. Campers will learn tricks, tips and techniques to make them stand out and they’ll learn such skills as partner stunting, partner building as well as dance choreography and much more. No matter how experienced, every cheerleader or camper who wishes to become a cheerleader is welcome. Curriculums are designed to accommodate every skill level, building on skills they already may have or teaching the very basics.
