Breaking News: Mission Hospital has purchased nearly 5 acres near Harris Regional Hospital, county land records show. The deeds are dated Sept. 2. Mission paid the landowners $1,188,000 for the adjoining parcels. The property fronts U.S. Business 23 and is next to the dialysis center. Harris Regional Hospital declined to comment. Mission’s Jerri Jamison was in a meeting this morning, but said she would have a hospital administrator discuss the purchase with The Herald today. Mission Hospital last month announced plans to move into Haywood County with a medical office building near Haywood Regional Medical Center. Mission plans to offer more primary care services, specialty care, imaging and laboratory services in that county. WestCare – Harris Regional and Swain County Hospital – recently sold to for-profit Duke LifePoint, as did Haywood Regional. Mission expressed interest in obtaining WestCare when the company placed itself on the market, and, after the deal with Duke LifePoint was struck, said that it was disappointed with WestCare’s decision “to align with a Tennessee-based for-profit healthcare company.”
