Breeding is not for the faint of heart, if we wanted to do - TopicsExpress

Breeding is not for the faint of heart, if we wanted to do something risk free we would have taken up doll collecting or maybe stamps. Breeding can be the most rewarding, the most frustrating and the most heartbreaking thing a person can undertake. In every breed there are breeders like ourselves who sacrifice vacations, clean clothes on rainy days and lots and lots of expense that selling an occasional litter of puppies will never come close to reimbursing. Breeders like us never think of income when planning a litter, they are looking at the long goal of producing that dog as close to the standard in your minds eye. No matter how you try there will be things and people that trip you up, there is always that percentage of people whom you cannot please and now with the internet they have an open forum and unless you hear through the grapevine its near impossible to defend your reputation. Today one of those types posted. Many know that several years ago we imported a dog who produced seizures (he produced them in the UK from his litters sired there but we were never told even though we asked) we never made it a secret, we told everyone who had a puppy both pet and show what was happening and what to expect in case it did as well as options for replacements and buy backs of puppies whether they were affected or not. We then began the long process of culling our breeding program and in the end had 4 puppies from the litters he produced. Now 5-7 years old they have never had any health issues and of the two that have had litters none have produced affected puppies and those puppies are 2-3 years old. We are extremely proactive in culling health issues and also any issue that can affect our dogs success in the ring or field. Anyone who knows us , knows we are very upfront about our dogs and our breeding program. We have been breeding approx 1-2 litters per year since 1967, there are dozens of friends we have made along the way and sadly one or two people who skitter from breeder to breeder who feel that can hurt our reputation with a slew of un truths and innuendo..well good luck with that, our success and record speaks for itself.
