Brian Baade, a painting conservator, came by the office to work on two pieces in our collection painted by Harrington Fitzgerald. He’s testing to see which solvents will remove surface dirt and yellowed varnish without damaging the paint layer below. You can see him here working on Washington Crossing the Delaware. And also posted is a close-up of Valley Forge Winter, the Return of the Foraging Party that shows the dramatic difference between the treated and untreated canvas. (Look closely at the figures hat!)
