** Bridge Day 2014 ** After a long hiatus... Bald Eagle Grottos - TopicsExpress

** Bridge Day 2014 ** After a long hiatus... Bald Eagle Grottos vertical team, the North East Rig & Drop Squad (N.E.R.D.S.) will be making its return (hopefully) to rappel from the New River Gorge Bridge on October 18, 2014. The New River Gorge Bridge is the worlds third longest steel arch bridge with a main span of 1,700 feet. At 876 feet above the New River, the New River Gorge Bridge is the third highest bridge in he United States and the highest bridge east of the Mississippi; thirteenth highest bridge in the world. As some of you know already, I have submitted the team application and have spoken with Benjy. We will not know for sure if we have a spot on the Bridge until June 20th, when they do the lottery drawing to determine anchor locations. In the mean time, I need to finish filling the team roster... a few spots are still open. If you have any interest in joining us on the Bridge, please let me know. I will likely not be able to fit everyone on, so I will be screening based upon the following criteria: 1.) Are you a BEG member 2.) Have you done the Bridge previously 3.) Have you done a 250 free rappel (a strict Bridge Day requirement) 4.) If you have not done a 250 rappel, are you willing to commit to a rigorous training schedule over the next 2 months to demonstrate to me that you are safe, competent, and capable 5.) Non-BEG memebers who meet the requirements above (there are a few waiting already) With that in mind, I suggest that if you have any interest at all... 1.) contact me 2.) show up at ALL BEG vertical training sessions! The next session is this weekend! If you dont meet the first three criteria above, I will be conducting several trips between now and the first week of June... including trips to West Virginia, Harpers Ferry, T.A.G., and Whitesides. These will be required... not only to fulfill the Bridge Day requirement... but more importantly, to show me that you know what your doing. I will be posting these training dates over the next week or so, as I finalize plans. Costs associated will be as follows: $20 your portion of the team application fee $155 individual registration fee $15 per night camping fee Food and gas Aside from the prerequisites above... I will be accepting team members based on a first come, first serve basis... confirmed by paying me your $20 portion of the team fee. Again, if you have interest, you need to contact me soon! Lets get this party started!! officialbridgeday/bridge-day-rappel/
