Brig. Gen. Peggy C. Combs – who took command of USACC and Fort Knox on March 6 – was promoted to major general by Lt. Gen. Thomas W. Spoehr, director of the Army’s Office of Business Transformation. Combs is the 11th commanding general of USACC and the 85th commanding general of Fort Knox. Among her duties in these roles, she oversees the development of future Army officers, ensures the care of Soldiers, their families and Army civilians on Fort Knox, and helps to enable the readiness of all units on post. Prior to this assignment, Combs served as the 27th chief of Chemical and commandant of the U.S. Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear School at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. She also previously served at Fort Knox from 2011 to 2012 as the deputy commander of USACC. Commissioned as an Army second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps and as a distinguished military graduate of the ROTC program in 1985 at Syracuse University, Combs has nearly 30 years of military experience. In addition to a Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University, she has a Master of Science degree from Saint Mary College and a Master of Strategic Arts degree from the U.S. Army War College. A native of Oriskany, New York, Combs is a 1981 graduate of Oriskany High School.
