Brisbane Waters Secondary College Bushcraft students, completed - TopicsExpress

Brisbane Waters Secondary College Bushcraft students, completed the removal of the remaining two fibreglass/plywood boats, from Spectacle Island on Friday. Jonathan and Gayle, holidaying in Australia from France, joined us for the day to see what Clean4shore is all about. Rob Moxhams oyster barge, complete with crane and Mitch at the controls, positioned the group adjacent to the boats, then crow bars, saws, picks and plenty of muscle began the demolition task. Each boat was cut into pieces, cleaned of mud and lifted into the barge. This was tough very dirty work, with all students keen to get involved. Part of the western foreshore of Spectacle was also cleaned, with a car tyre, oyster products and small litter collected. The falling tide had the group working at a frantic pace, with the barge appearing to be stuck on the mud bank. Twenty bodies heaved the barge out of the mangroves, pushing the vessel, until deeper water could be found. Lee and Mitch, worked the crane to remove all material into a new skip bin for future collection. Big effort by this group of students and their supervising teachers, for commencing this task, and seeing the job through. In total four boats were removed from the mangroves, massive support by local oyster grower Rob Moxham and his team, with both Gosford and Hornsby Council, funding the program.
