Bruised Not Broken Pit Bull Dogs AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NOW! (4 photos) *PLEASE JOIN OUR MISSION TO SAVE SHELTER “LONG-TIMERS” – THE DOGS NEED OUR HELP!* BNB Family, We’d like to bring your attention to a shelter on Long Island, NY that is in serious need of help in placing their (amazing!) Pit Bull dogs. Hempstead Town Animal Shelter is PACKED TO THE BRIM with adoptable companion pets, many of whom have spent nearly their entire lives inside of the shelter. Before we continue, here’s a little info about the shelter: The Town of Hempstead (TOH) Animal Shelter is a government funded open admissions shelter taking in approximately 5,000 animals per year. On average they house between 130-160 dogs, 96% of which are PIT BULL DOGS. They are not moving dogs fast enough to keep up with the surrender rate and, as such, are overflowing with “long-timers”. Let’s discuss the URGENCY OF LONG-TIMERS. The phrase “long-timer” describes a dog who has spent a heartbreaking amount of time – perhaps even a lifetime – at the shelter through no fault of their own. Sometimes is feels like potential adopters, rescue groups, advocates and social media outlets overlook long-terms and instead solely focus on finding homes for dogs that may otherwise be put down within days. Certainly there is tremendous value in advocating for dogs in “kill shelters” (which we regularly do), as their chances to live depends upon people opening their homes to foster or adopt. But what ends up happening to the long-timers who are just as deserving of our attention, and equally deserving of safe and loving homes? Many spend YEARS inside the shelter, homeless. Some dogs have spent their ENTIRE LIVES inside of a cage. As a result, they suffer tremendously - emotionally, socially, physically, and psychologically. Additionally, these pups are at serious risk for developing behavior issues associated with spending so much time behind bars; behavior issues that would likely have never developed in the first place had they found themselves in better circumstances. This, in turn, increases their chances of being put down (as dogs with “aggression” are indeed euthanized at this shelter). It’s a terrible, terrible cycle…..AND IT NEEDS TO END. Bruised Not Broken has HEARD THE PLEA of each and every soul inside the TOH shelter. We’ve shaken the paws of some TERRIFIC Pit Bull dogs whose unbroken spirits have moved us to tears and have further awakened us to the need for advocating and social networking. So now, WE GET TO WORK! With the help of our unbelievably devoted BNB Family (all of YOU!), we are confident that we can HELP LONG-TIMERS to finally find the safe and loving homes that they so deserve, and that they have been waiting months, years, and lifetimes for. PLEASE HELP US TO HELP THEM
