Brutality and Disrespect in our neighborhoods Enough Is Enough! ØHave you or (someone you know) been harassed or attacked by the police? ØDo you regularly get followed by the police? ØHow many times have you been stopped and frisked? ØHave you been profiled because of the color of your skin or the neighborhood you live in? In her important 2010 book The New Jim Crow: Mass incarceration in the age of color-blindness, legal scholar Michelle Alexander describes police practices which target neighborhoods of color for arrests and enforcement. For many women and men these arrests are the entry point into the “school-to-prison pipeline,” and our current system of mass imprisonment. Does it have to be like this? What can we do to organize a response? How do we hold police officers accountable for their actions in our neighborhoods?
