Buganda Road Court has charged and remanded six people over trafficking of persons for recruitment in M23 and Allied Democratic Force (ADF) rebel groups in the DR Congo. This comes at a time Police have just rescued a Rwandan student, who alleges that he was abducted by unknown gunmen from Rwanda in April, taken to DRC and conscripted into M23 ranks. The suspects include, Abdul Noor Avi a politician in the DRC, Patrick Muke, a Congolese peasant, Kazi Kamate a DRC national, Adrian Muhumuza a taxi driver and John Bosco Ruhinda, a security officer. They appeared before magistrate Julius Borore yesterday who ordered for their detention in Luzira prison until September 3, when they will be presented before the chief magistrate for plea taking. They are facing four counts of human trafficking and one count of engaging in recruiting Ugandan migrant workers without license an offence contrary to section 7(1) of the EmploymentAct. Prosecution alleges that on July 19, the suspects and others still at large while at Kalita Bus Park in Kampala, recruited and sheltered John Rwasingo, George Bajema, Abrahamin Bajema and Stephen Ssebunya, whom they transported to Kasese District with intent to smuggle them into DRC to join rebellions by means of deception for purposes of exploitation.
